Dan Smaller

Dan Smaller is a veteran emerging and frontier markets investor and banker. He worked successfully for 20 years on the trading and sell-side around the world and the following 15 years on the buy-side in Asia and the Middle East. In investment banking, Dan built and led sales and marketing teams for Citibank, Lehman and UBS. He identified and increasingly focused on the opportunities in Emerging Markets. He was first to introduce Public Equity investors to markets from Pakistan to Peru and Croatia to Egypt. In 2002 he moved to the buy-side with Deutsche Bank where he built and led the distribution effort for Deutsche’s Asset Management arm in the Middle East where he was responsible for the region out of Dubai. Dan was then instrumental in establishing the MENA region’s first truly independent asset management firm – Algebra Capital where he a Founding Partner. Shortly after the latter’s successful sale to Franklin/Templeton, Dan moved to DUET Asset Management and then Renaissance Asset Management where he built and led the distribution efforts globally. He joined Homestrings, the oldest and largest dedicated EM and Frontier Market Crowd Funding firm, as a partner and is responsible for Partnerships globally. Dan Smaller is a well recognized expert in emerging markets. His career to date has included assignments in Bahrain, Dubai, Zurich, London, Singapore, Sydney and Hong Kong. He has an undergraduate degree from the School of International Service from American Univ in Washington DC and an MBA from the University of Chicago. . He sits on the Board of Pakistan’s largest independent Asset Managment firm as well as other boards in the Media and Fin Tech space. Dan is currently resident in London
